Most parents do not realize that the right preschool materials can lay the groundwork for success in your child’s future school performance.  Many parents believe that preschool is simply a time of finger painting, fun and naps, but they fail to recognize that many off the skills which can make or break the learning potential are actually developed by the right preschool materials.

Preschool Materials are More Than Just Fun

It is true that having fun is an essential part of good preschool materials, the best preschool materials go far beyond the fun aspect and begin to lay the groundwork for skills that the child will use in the future.  As a behavioural optometrist, I see preschool and prep as essential launch pads for a child’s visual development, enabling them to develop visual skills which will serve them long into their academic career.

So while many parents just see games and fun for the preschoolers, I believe that preschool materials which develop these essential visual skills are incredibly powerful in laying the groundwork for future success.  That being said, if these exercises which develop visual skills are not fun,  compliance is poor and most young children will quickly tire of the therapies.  So fun and games are important, but they are even more important if they are coupled with the right preschool materials which develop the right visual skills in our children.

What Can Preschool Materials Develop?

preschool materialsThe right preschool materials can begin to develop important visual skills, even in young children.  I have successfully used vision therapy to develop skills such as convergence, focus, I am movements and tracking, visualization and visual memory, laterality the reversals, coding and sequencing, as well as gross and fine motor control.

There is no question that the right vision therapy can develop these essential skills in preschoolers, thereby setting them up for long-term success in school by giving them the edge they need early on.  The trick is to produce these therapies in the form of games and fun tasks so that preschoolers will do the necessary exercises, and enjoy the overall experience.

Preschool Materials That Really Work

That is why, as a behavioral optometrist, I have spent many hours researching and developing fun yet powerful vision therapy exercises, designed to capture the attention and enthusiasm of young children as well as developing the visual skills that they need to face their academic career.  Using simple techniques, cunningly applied in fun games and activities, we can provide preschool materials that really work for developing the visual system.

Preschool materials need to be fun, but they need also to be so much more than that!  Simply having fun in preschool prep is not enough in the 21st century, so in addition to the fun we also need to provide an environment whereby the visual skills necessary for future academic achievement are developed.

So when you are considering what to do with your child, and how to help them set up a platform so that they will not struggle but rather excel at school, you need to consider preschool materials that combine fun and interesting tasks with the right kind of visual development.
